LOST

The darkness reaches out

A long lost foe, rediscovered

Of holes of imagined terrors

And dreams potent and real

You can’t close your eyes to escape them

They lurk deep in the soul

Always there, always watching, always waiting

For that moment of weakness

When glass ebony walls crack

It seeps through the actions of others

Or inaction of self

Conscious or unconsciousness it cares not

When real becomes surreal it pounces

With a wash of fear, deep and forbidding

A chain reaction

A body out of sync with consciousness

The heart skips a beat, then two or more

And the mind is out of control

While the conscious scrambles to grasp sanity

What is real or imaged?

The soul no longer cares

It’s the moment

The now

A driving force

Until the calm settles once more
